FAQs
Question 1 - How much does the course cost?
The cost of this off-campus course is $3,660 which includes flights, land transportation, food, admission to official sites, and lodging while away from campus. It does not include souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, non-official admission charges, or personal care items. This cost is on top of the regular tuition and room and board charges. We are currently working on some fundraisers to help lower the cost of the course. We’ve already done Soup, Stew, Chili & Brew which yielded us a good start on this.
Question 2 - Should I try to raise money on my own?
Yes! Set up a go fund me to help with your costs. Just make sure to say that this is helping you with an Off-Campus Academic Course from which you will receive college credit. Don’t refer to it as a trip as most people will think you’re asking them to fund your vacation - which this is not. Also, ask any organizations in your home community that might help you, such as your church, a club like the Elks or Moose if your family is a member, etc. Offer to give a presentation when you return this summer and gift them with one of your photos from the course.
Question 3 - What all will we see during our travels?
We will fly to Rapid City, SD, where we will then take a van west. We will visit many sites, including Devil’s Tower, Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument, museums, Yellowstone National Park, Wind Cave National Park, a wild horse safari, Native American cultural sites, Wind Cave National Park, and much more. Then we will travel east of Rapid City to the Badlands National Park, Wall Drug and points in between. It’s going to be busy and epic!
Question 4 - Do I need a professional camera for this course?
No. Of course, having a good DSLR camera with a telephoto lens would be very helpful in capturing images, especially from a distance. However, a good I-phone camera or high-quality Samsung phone camera is also acceptable. I have captured many amazing images with my phone camera.
Question 5 - How long will we be traveling off campus?
We will begin the term with four days on campus before we travel West via van for 14 days before returning to Hanover to finish our projects before the term ends. We will be going all the way to Yellowstone National Park and back!
